Eurovision Song Contest Voting

So how does the voting works? Well, technically it's simple. Every country participating gives away the points 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 to 10 other countries (They can't vote for themselves). The other countries get 0 points. Most countries now has televotes, which means that their viewers send SMSes or calls to give one vote.

What consequences does this have?

First of all this means that countries which like each other will give each other points. But everyone hates the others, so no... Well, Cyprus and Greece almost always gives each other 12 points, but last year Greece gave Finland 12 points (Thanks to the moralists who gave Lordi and Finland free advertising there).

Most importantly is the immigrants. They way too often vote for their old country no matter how much that song sucked. So Germany gives Turkey 12 points, and Russia always get votes from former Russians, 12 points from Latvia and Israel are guaranteed.

Secondly important is cultural similarities. That means that many Balkan states votes for each other, but no one else get their music. And you have Portugal, Israel and Spain who always vote for some disco song, no matter from where it is.

On www.linkmeet.com/_lordi you have the top-votes from all countries.

The no song voting

So what if people would vote without hearing the songs?

ESC Russia would win. No other country have that many that nationalistic people in the other countries.
ESC Ireland Everyone loves the Irish because they're cute or something.
ESC Bosnia & Herzegovina A civil war is a very good way to get votes! They get neighbouring votes and votes from their emigrants in countries like Sweden.
ESC Turkey will get 12 points from Germany, the Netherlands, France and here and there elsewhere.
ESC Sweden They are sending Abba again? Or have some Swedish girls? Well, Sweden sounds good at least... And Sweden always gets votes from the neighbouring countries without repaying them.

And then all the "normal countries":
ESC Germany
ESC Armenia
ESC France Used to get points from Francophiles, but they have given up now.
ESC Germany
ESC Greece Will get 12 points from Cyprus.
ESC Lithuania
ESC Romania Will get 12 points from Moldavia.
ESC Spain Will not get points from Portugal.
ESC Ukraine Will get 12 points from Russia and maybe from Poland.
ESC Albania Gets some points because they are odd.
ESC Andorra
ESC Austria If you think that Germans votes are coming this way, you're wrong. The only thing Germany wants to send Austria is Hitler...
ESC Belarus
ESC Belgium Get points from France by singing in French or from the Netherlands by singing in Dutch? Tough choice!
ESC Bulgaria
ESC Croatia Will get some neighbour votes, but not as much as Bosnia.
ESC Cyprus
ESC Czech Republic
ESC Denmark
ESC Estonia
ESC FYR Macedonia Will get some neighbour votes, but not as much as Bosnia.
ESC Georgia
ESC Hungary
ESC Iceland Will get some votes from around the Northern countries.
ESC Latvia Will get some Baltic votes.
ESC Malta Has no neighbours and have to have a song, but if they have people will vote for it.
ESC Moldova Might get some points from Romania.
ESC Montenegro Will get some neighbour votes, but not as much as Bosnia.
ESC the Netherlands
ESC Norway
ESC Poland Will get a few neighbour votes, but it seldom helps.
ESC Portugal Will not get points from Spain.
ESC Serbia Will get some neighbour votes, but not as much as Bosnia.
ESC Slovenia Gets points from here and there, but nothing special.
ESC Switzerland

And the bottom
ESC Finland There are a lot of Finnish people in Sweden, but they are usually too ashamed to vote for Finland and no one else except maybe some accidental vote from Malta will go there. Unless they send monsters, of course.
ESC Israel needs a transsexual to win.
ESC United Kingdom The English think that they are popular all across Europe, but they must have got themselves confused with Ireland. Try sending some Scots or maybe even Northern Ireland? UK might get a few votes from Ireland, but not often.
