Welcome to Elfpack. This is a totally normal Internet community. We promise! We're really normal! Everyone of us! We're not a tiny little bit strange. Move along! Nothing to see here!
Well, OK. You might want to have a look at the unlimited photo albums, your own chat-page which might be used by non-members too, people from all over the world and the friendly people here.
Better wiki-comments
You don't need to reload the page to post wiki-comments on it anymore. There is also a button for checking for new comments on the page without reloading it. (Yes, that button looks a little ugly when you're having a wide window, but all the buttons are going to get remade soon.)
Search in GBs/diaries
You can now search in guestbooks or diaries.
A small note though: You'll only search through the 50 000 latest entries when searching on <URI:gbs.ht
Another update is that the edit-forms of the diary entries and guestbook messages that you have sent is now hidden unless you press an edit-button. It should make it easier to read through the texts.
New image upload
When you upload an image to your presentation now, the new image will appear on a wiki-page. Features:
1) Click on the newly uploaded image (like the one in [Hedda]'s presentation) and then you come to that wiki-page.
2) This means that you can easily comment on others' photos.
3) The photo wiki-pages are listed on an index-page so that you can list all the previous images that someone has uploaded (unless they have removed them from the index).
4) You can import the images you have uploaded before to wiki-pages too.
5) The index-page for your images is empty at start, but you can edit it if you want to write something there.
6) The image on the wiki-page is now in high-res (it's a clickable image).
I hope the system with the index wiki-pages isn't too confusing for new users! It should be pretty straight forwards, but please drop a posting in the suggestions forum if you have any suggestions of how to make it even simpler.
More: There are a ton of small features and bugfixes activated now. You'll notice.

[Ihsahn] now has the title of Warden over Elfpack. Hopefully he'll have a better knowledge of the Elfpackers than [Hedda] has had. You're always welcome to leave comment on for example council!
If you are interested in helping out with making Elfpack contests, the toggery, the daily poem, or something else, then have a go at Apply to the crew. It's a great way to meet new people that you wouldn't have talked to otherwise!
Please note that the applications generally have been left for a year as it isn't interesting with people who don't stick around, but this doesn't mean that the application is ignored.
It's important to sort out all the ones who say they want to help, but just doesn't, so the fastest way into the council is to run your own stuff for a while or help out with various stuff (see future news and the forums!).
And if you aren't interested, just keep on Elfpacking, you lazy bun!

There has been some problems with a disk this week. Some of the members between number 25087 and 29248 have lost their second images. Nothing to be done about this.
There might be some coolpoints lost too.
Elfpack was down a few hours just before this was posted, but hopefully this is the end of the problems. But eventually [krill] needs to be shut down for awhile to install a new harddisk though, but nothing is planed yet.

Elfpack was down today due to database repairs because of a power failure. Damn those thunderstorms.
And they came quite badly! Just this evening I'm expecting that a UPS will arrive that will hopefully make Elfpack immune to these small totally annoying power failures.
Update 16:55 2009-07-03: Just when I write that, there was another power failure. Everything should be OK now and a UPS will be installed tomorrow morning.
Update: UPS installed and tested. No more power-problems for 3 years!

By the time a Marine pulled into a little town, every hotel room was taken. "You've got to have a room somewhere", he pleaded. "Or just a bed, I don't care where."
"Well, I do have a double room with one occupant - an Air Force guy", admitted the manager, "and he might be glad to split the cost. But to tell you the truth, he snores so loudly that people in adjoining rooms have complained. I'm not sure it'd be worth it to you, anybody that stays with him doesnt sleep."
"No problem," the tired Marine assured him. "I'll take it."
The next morning the Marine came down to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. "How'd you sleep?" asked the manager.
"Never better." The manager was impressed.
"No problem with the other guy snoring, then?"
"Nope, I shut him up in no time," said the Marine.
"How'd you manage that?" asked the manager.
"He was already in bed, snoring away, when I came in the room," the Marine explained. "I went over, gave him a kiss on the cheek, said, 'Goodnight, beautiful,' and he sat up all night watching me."
