This week on the Elfpack Independent's Top 10: Songs To Lose Your Street Cred! :D
"What's that?" i hear you cry! 'Songs To Lose Your Street Cred' are those 'guilty pleasures' all of us have on our iTunes, or CDs (or whatever else you crazy kids have to play music on), that if your friends heard, they'd laugh at you.
In short, the songs we all love, but would never admit to it! xD

All videos are from Youtube, so feel free to listen to any you haven't heard before, or that you'd love to hear again :]

Number 10:

White + Nerdy

Wierd Al Yankovich

Okay, this song isnt that bad. Wierd Al does some fantastic parodies, and this is another one right up there with his best. The only problem is; if you're actually listening to this, you're probably one of the people he's talking about (to a certain degree anyway.. lol).
Once people listen to some of the lyrics and click it's not the original, you're screwed!

Unfortunately, embedding of the original video is disabled. So, i got you guys a treat.. it's the lego version!
To enjoy the lego version to the full, you need to have seen the original. Here's the link to it ^^

Number 9:

Beautiful Day

U2

No-one actually admits they like U2. It's like saying 'Bono is cool!', and we all know that's not true. At all O_o
Still, you gotta hand it to them.. they do make good pop songs, and they're always catchy! Call this one a 'guilty pleasure', if you will x]
But dont fret too much; this is the paul oakenfold remix of their classic track 'Beautiful Day'. I'm not sure if that'll boost your street cred any, mind..

Prefer the original version? Don't worry, i got that for you too! Click here ^^

Number 8:

Dream Catch Me

Newton Faulkner

Oh my, where to start on this guy? Regardless of the fact he highlights his ginger hair with dreadlocks, and that his songs seem depressing at first glance, he's still a great singer, with a fantastic voice, and appears to write his own songs. Just dont let your friends scroll through your iTunes when this guy's on... endless ribbing, i'm sure

This video also has the 'embedding' feature disabled, so i've had to pluck another wonder from youtube. If you would prefer to watch the original, click here ^^

Number 7:

Louisianna Woman, Mississippi Man

Loretta Lynn And Conway Twitty

A catchy love song, drilled into our minds on 'GTA: San Andreas', by the infamous country radio station 'K-Rose'. It didnt reach the nosebleed heights of 'All My Exes Live In Texas', hence why this one's on our list, and that one's not. Try to keep this one off the 'Party Shuffle' if you dont like getting laughed at.. x]

Sorry about the naff video, It's the only one with a decent download speed.

Number 6:

Thank You

Dido

Dido became well known to us for her part in Eminem's creditable song 'Stan', where she sang the chorus. The chorus is a sample from one of her first big songs, 'Thank You', which, i believe, did pretty well in the charts once it was released. If it wern't for Eminem, we'd have never heard of her.. Still, a good listen nontheless, but terrible for the street cred T_T

Embedding is disabled again (probably best), so here's the youtube link ^^

Number 5:

Rudebox

Robbie Williams

I think Robbie's advisors went a bit AWOL when he turned up with an idea for a song, in which he'd try to re-invent his pure-pop style, and turn into bad-boy rapper. Why didn't someone turn 'round to him, and say "Stick to what you're best at, eh?"? Little did we know this absolute flop would be really catchy! You'll be singing it all night!

Seen the video before? Wanna see something different? :o

Number 4:

Still The One/The Way

Shania Twain + Elton John

This song is pretty unique. Neither Shania Twain, nor Elton John are particularly adored by the majority, hence why it reaches a lofty number 4 :D
It's actually a really nice song, with a careful blend of both, sung well by each. On the flip side; two singers to hate in one song. Both not cool, both lose you street cred. Poor you!

And poor me, too. They're on my iTunes.. T_T

(sorry, no other videos of it. must be a one-off) :\

Number 3:

shalala (In the morning)

The Vengaboys

These guys are fun. It really could have been any of their songs, they're all great! I remember once, I was in a club, and it was completely dead.. I walked over to the DJ, and said 'You got any Vengaboys?'. He laughed, got on the microphone and shouted "Vengaboys? You want Vengaboys on?!", laughed some more, and then put it on for the next song. The dancefloor was packed!
Maybe it's the beat of the drum, maybe it's the relaxed, reggae-esque melodies, perhaps even the catchy lyrics.. Who knows? But no-one will admit to liking them (except me! lol)

More pliz o_o... Here you go! :D

Number 2:

Fascination

Alphabeat

Haha, i love this song. Hated it at first, but it stuck in my head. The next day, i was downloading their album x]
Same for my sister, actually. I played her a bit of it from my iPod, and she was giving me strange looks, saying it was 'alright'... lol
Next day, she asked me to send her the song! xD
Just make sure your mates dont catch you dancing around to it.. It's not that cool, yet O.o

Fancy a different version? Don't fret!

Number 1:

Gold

Spandau Ballet

Our number 1 for this week; 'Gold - Spandau Ballet'. Quite a popular choice, i think, since it's a classic track. It's certainly popular with my friends (albeit the remix version, named 'She Was Old'. dont ask..). It was also popularised by the 'GTA: Vice City' PS2/X-Box game, where it was on one of the radio stations. That's where i first heard it, and have loved it ever since. It really doesnt boost your street cred, though.. It is, at heart, a terribly cheesy pop song.. But too catchy to hate!

Different video? Try this www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIfPM8g9AoA
Dance version? How about this :D

Almost there

(the songs that almost made it onto the list)

Babylon - David Gray
Despite the fact that if your mates walked in they'd think you were about to hang yourself, it's still an amazing song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj3QDOdHxbA&feature=related

(Anything by) Avril Lavigne
Here's another whingey-whiney song from the whingey-whiney singer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2eUCfREAbw

My Favourite Game - Cardigans
Popularised by the 'Gran Tourismo 2' PS game, it wouldnt actually lose you too much street cred
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGBeMySseOU

Hakuna Matata - Lion King
Everyone secretly loves the film, everyone secretly loves the song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejEVczA8PLU

World's Greatest - R. Kelly
Despite the awful video, it's still a good song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o50BFpR7m6o

The Tetris theme
Always annoys my friends when it comes on my iTunes, due to it's unavoidably catchy melody.
But when played on glass bottles..? That's a must-see!

2008-10-01 [ladynightengale]: See I have no idea who K-os is.. I'm more into country :)

2008-10-01 [Sunshine.]: lol, hmm, no worries.
I don't think people who don't listen to a lot of rap/hip hop know who he is unless they are Canadian.

lol, he's one of our better musicians, and has more of a hip hop vibe to him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=602F1Db-uLY << Here's a youtube link to one of his newer songs, "Sunday Morning". you might like it.

2008-10-01 [ladynightengale]: I checked it out, and I do like it^^ Thanks for introducing K-os to me^^

2008-10-01 [Sunshine.]: No problem. I love promoting Canadian music. :) lol.

Only if I like them of course.
He's got really some feel good beats and catchy lyrics. :)

2008-10-01 [ladynightengale]: Lol yeah I like promoting music as well.. but only if I know the person might like it.. other wise I just keep it to myself.

Yeah, I agree, the beat was good, it had me dancing in my seat in the first couple of seconds, lol^^

2008-10-01 [Sunshine.]: Haha very true, since you said you're more of a country girl, I won't recommend Alexisonfire, I personally find them addictive, but since they are a bit "hardcore" with their scream-o parts, I don't know if you'd be interested. lol

His song 'man I used to be' is also pretty catchy.:)

2008-10-01 [ladynightengale]: oh yeah? Well like I said I listen to pretty much anything.. I love music.

2008-10-02 [Sunshine.]: hmm, well then, give them a listen.
Dallas Green's voice is Ah-mazing.
(He does the non-screamo parts lol)

Their courses are usually super catchy too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJcZaS0JthA << here's the link for Boiled Frogs. ^^

PS. I've had Pink's new single "So What?" Stuck in my head all day. lol

2008-10-02 [ladynightengale]: Ok, I'll definitely check it out^^

2008-10-02 [Sunshine.]: Awesome.

2008-10-03 [Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ♫Im a poptartƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ♫]: " so what" is a great song. love the viddy.

2008-10-03 [ladynightengale]: Yeah it really is^^

2008-10-03 [Sunshine.]: I just saw the video today for the first time.
It was very fun ^^

2008-10-30 [Innocent Seduction]: Wait? That's one of his newest songs? I was watching this vid on IMF like two years ago!

2008-10-30 [DeeJay™]: sorry, who are you talking to? and about what? x]

2008-10-31 [Innocent Seduction]: The K-os vid that was shared on here...

2008-11-01 [DeeJay™]: ah, okay x]

2008-11-01 [Sunshine.]: I never actually said it was one of his new songs. I just said she might like it, because it is a very catchy, feel good song.

It did come out in late 2005/2006 I believe anyways.

2008-11-02 [Innocent Seduction]: Here's a youtube link to one of his newer songs, "Sunday Morning". you might like it.

2008-11-02 [Sunshine.]: It is one of his "newer" songs, as he's not come out/released anything more recent yet, however it is not "new".

Oh sorry, he has come out with a new album in 2007 called "Collected" by that's just a compilation of previous singles he's released, such as "Sunday Morning".

But in actuality, the Album "Hymns for the Disco" that features "Sunday Morning" was actually released in 2007. The single was released a bit earlier in 2006. So, you are right in hearing it two years ago, but I am also right in saying it was "newer".

2008-11-02 [DeeJay™]: i still prefer 'rudebox' O_o
<img:sing.gif> rudebox! shake your rudebox (why you so nasty?)<img:mood36-gif.gif>
