       Stem cell research
Stem cell research always has been-- and probably always will be-- one of the most popular and controversial topics of all time. Some say it is wrong because it involves using the cells of unborn children; this is true, although it does have many benefits for those who have disabilities and threatening illnesses. This is also true, according to the research. When stem cells were applied to animals, the results were that the animals were much stronger, and no longer favored certain sides of their bodies. A stem cell is a basically a blank cell that forms into any type of cell it is near. Stem cells can also be used to help out newborns; while we don't yet (as far as i know) have the technology to create new limbs we can help by adding stem cells to under-developed joints so that that newborn can take his or her first steps.
The history of research into these magic medicines is more lengthy than you might imagine. In fact, they were first mentioned in 1908, when the Russian histologist Alexander Maksimov (1874–1928) proposed their name at a meeting of the congress of the hematologic society in Berlin. However, it wasn't until the 1960s that scientific evidence of adult neurogenesis, ongoing stem cell activity in the brain, was proven to exist.
In 1963, scientists Ernest McCulloch and James Till illustrated the presence of self-renewing cells in mouse bone marrow. This came to fruition in 1968 , when a bone marrow transplant between two siblings successfully treated SCID. It wasn't long until evidence of stem cells popped up elsewhere; soon, haematopoietic stem cells were discovered in human cord blood.
In the year 1981, scientists Martin Evans, Matthew Kaufman, and Gail R. Martin made a breakthrough when they successfully derived mouse embryonic stem cells from the inner cell mass of a mouse fetus. Gail R. Martin holds a claim to fame for coining the term "Embryonic Stem Cell".
These helpful stem cells weren't the only kind of stem cells to be discovered; leukemia, a fatal cancer that afflicts children, was shown to originate from a haematopoietic stem cell in 1997. This was the first direct evidence for cancer stem cells. A sad discovery indeed, but only one year later, James Thomson and coworkers at the University of Wisconsin–Madison derive the first human embryonic stem cell line. Also in 1998, scientist John Gearhart of Johns Hopkins University extracted germ cells from fetal gonadal tissue before developing many different stem cell lines from the original sample. This would pave the way for many things to come.
The new millennium would bring many new advancements in this technology. For instance, in 2001, scientists at Advanced Cell Technology succeeded in cloning the first early (four- to six-cell stage) human embryos for the purpose of generating embryonic stem cells. 2005, researchers at Kingston University in England claimed to have discovered a third category of stem cell, dubbed cord-blood-derived embryonic-like stem cells (CBEs), derived from umbilical cord blood. The scientists claimed that these umbilical cord-derived stem cells were more versatile than regular adult stem cells, and could evolve or be “determined” into more types of specialized organ cells.
These researchers were soon vindicated for their hard work, when researchers at UC Irvine's Reeve-Irvine Research Center succeeded in partially restoring the ability of mice with paralyzed spines to walk through the injection of human neural stem cells. At last, it seemed, these stem cells had proved their worth. In fact, in October 2006, the brilliant researchers in Newcastle University in England created the first ever artificial liver cells using umbilical cord blood stem cells.
However, much controversy was brewing about the use of these umbilical stem cells, due to facts which we will discuss later. But in January 2007, these setbacks were stopped temporarily when scientists at Wake Forest University led by Dr. Anthony Atala and Harvard University report discovery of a new type of stem cell in amniotic fluid, which could provide an alternative to use of embryonic stem cells. In fact, in June of the same year, research reported by three different groups showed that normal skin cells in mice could be “reprogrammed” to an embryonic state.
As you can see, these cells have the potential to cure almost any disease. However, there are many opponents of this method. One of the most well known groups against stem cell research is the notorious Westboro Baptist Church. They believe, as stated before, that using cells from unborn fetuses is considered murder. Many churches share their views; however, the thing that sets them apart from everyone else is that they are far more active and aggressive. They have sometimes gone as far as to make threatening phone calls to the employees of the research establishments.
The church isn't the only vocal opponent of stem cell research; there are many opponents in the halls of the Capital as well. Many senators (usually Republican) have stood up in opposition to the method. The first president to speak out against stem cell research was Gorge W Bush . Shortly after he made his statement against the subject, a banquet was held for the tube-grown children that would have been donated to these facilities. He referred to them as “snowflake children.” This was most likely due to the fact that they all had pale white skin and white hair, despite not being albino.
The way stem cells are applied is by simply injecting them into the area where they are needed. The procedure takes at least two weeks to take full effect. There are currently research facilities in every state, but the state with the most facilities is California. For several years, stem cell research was only legal in a few states until late 2009, when current president Barack Obama fully legalized stem cell research. There have recently been tests done on humans, but no official report has apparently been filed. Now i can understand the skeptics but, as mentioned before, there are other ways of getting these stem cells. In fact, if you ever have had a bone marrow transplant you can thank stem cell from another's bones for the help.
The process of extraction is simple. It can take a little time, but once a donor with a matching blood type is fond they are given a drug which will get all those stem cells out of your bones and get them out. Then after around a few days (around five to six) of waiting before harvesting a catheter or double IV is used on each arm and the blood is strained of stem cells and the blood is returned to the donor's body. This process will cost you a day twelve to twenty-four hours to get it all (or at lest most) of them out.
Stem cells, once extracted, can be used in many other ways besides bone marrow transplants. For instance, as we mentioned earlier, scientists have grown entire working organs simply from reprogramming stem cells to function and grow into specific types of cells. This process involves taking chemicals that tell the cell (while it's growing) what to form into. Once the stem cell has the chemical, and it's order, it changes it make-up to become that specific type of cell. This creates a new working organ which, as long as the blood type is the same, can be transplanted into the patient, thus giving them a new chance at life.
In this paper, we have talked about the history, the uses, and the opponents of stem cell research. Time will tell whether this landmark method will gain traction, but in the meantime, we can hope that one day, all the diseases that affect humanity can perhaps be alleviated by stem cells.

YouTube: Way More Than Just Hits in the Groin
Thousands upon thousands of people log onto YouTube every day to listen to music, watch videos of kitties, or do several other things video-related. A much smaller percentage are the ones who make these videos that we all enjoy so much. A video can take anywhere from two minutes to more than a week to make, depending on the quality. I make videos with my good friend—let’s call him Mr. D. I consider myself a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to video making, but I specialize in Speakonia videos and Let’s Plays, the former consisting of still pictures or videos of a character, presumed to be the speaker, spoken over by a computer-generated voice from the program Speakonia, which usually intends as a video to parody said character and often contains inappropriate content and racial slur, though usually not used in racial context. The latter, Let’s Plays, consist of recorded footage of a video game played by the person the video is credited to, while the same person adds humorous or explanatory commentary.  Making the video is fun, but for me, the most thrilling part is uploading them. When you get a lot of positive feedback on a video, it is better than any high anyone could experience. Each video is like a child. You only want to see them be successful, and as fun as it is to make them, the positive feedback is better. But unlike a child, a video will not grow into an angsty teenager, disown you and move in with its boyfriend or girlfriend, whom you probably don’t much care for anyway, but enough of my pointless ramblings. Throughout most of my YouTube “career,” I’ve gotten mainly very positive feedback. Some people have called me a comedy genius, and the strangest comment I ever received told me I was a god. My biggest inspirations for videos were Mr. D; someone with the username FireGXLOL, who was one of the first people to bring Speakonia to YouTube; ChuggaaConroy, a very popular Let’s Player, and NintendoCapriSun, a more laidback Let’s Player. My most popular video that wasn’t a response to something else was a Let’s Play of an Internet game called, “Indiana Bones and the Cannibal Cave.” It was basically a parody of Indiana Jones with stick people. However, my most-viewed video was one I did on a friend of mine getting a YouTube partnership. That video got over 2000 views. As fun as YouTube is, it isn’t all fun and games. One of the worst things about YouTube is the trolls. A troll is basically someone who uses YouTube to cause trouble. A troll will do anything from hurling insults to claiming copyright infringement on random videos, which results in the video being removed and its poster receiving a “strike.”  YouTube is like baseball—three strikes and you’re out. If a user’s account is suspended three times, it will be terminated. Many people think that YouTube—and the Internet in general—is like a jungle: wild and uncivilized with no rules. In reality, it has quite a few, though some are unenforced. You are not supposed to use “misleading” thumbnails, for instance, but many people do on a regular basis with no penalty. That is baceicley everthiny you need to know about youtube and how it has efectid me

Cence the beging of time men have had to deal with the stress of hunting farming and keeping food to provide for there famulys or even a hole village now of corse not to say in all cases woman cant be deceiving its just historically as well as neurologically it has shown woman are more likely to show sines of stress.

Sines of stress can be as small as a movement of the hand or as big as totally chageing your posstcher. Now bare in mind that the fallowing arent your one hundred percent way to know there are out side factors that can effect it they might be stressed over something elce or might have lied to some one else but they are a good first warning. Thousands of people are, at this very minute, turning on a game system or computer. More than likely, they will either be battling a fierce demon or “pwning a n00b” in a poorly-designed battlefield. I remember when I got my first shooting game. It was Goldeneye. I remember that every time I played the game, I went in with one mindset: don’t blink; shoot anything that moves.  After an extended period of time, I started to act that way… minus the shooting part, thankfully. I became really aggressive and my brain shut off. Several years after that, I started playing games like EarthBound, Final Fantasy and Super Mario RPG—role-playing games, a term commonly shortened to RPGs—and I felt much calmer and started doing better in school; however, these are just my personal experiences and I cannot speak for the whole world.  [] indicates a large increase in murders associated with violence in shooting games—games like Halo and Call of Duty. Personally, I believe RPGs are better, because although they do contain occasional acts of violence, they allow the player to think about what they are doing. People who play these games often tend to be more creative, and they are also better problem solvers in most situations. I believe this is because in most of these games, it is common for certain types of enemies to need certain types of weapons or items in order to be beaten.          Shooting games, on the other hand, are a one-size-fits-all thing; fire enough bullets and anything will die. In my opinion, these games are simple games for the simple-minded.  Throughout this whole paper, I’ve been bashing the first-person shooter game genre; however, playing those games can be a good way to relax and a good outlet for anger. Not all people who play them are stupid, arrogant, or rude, based this information on several different personal experiences. One can meet the same type of person playing RPGs.

"You have just unlocked NESS, the PSI-powder youth!" Little did I know it, but those words would forever change my life and who I am as a person. Let me give you more back story. When I was ten, I bought a game called Super Smash Bros. It was a fighting game with many well-known Nintendo characters- Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, etc. - however, there was one character who, no matter how I tried, I could never unlock. One night, at a church gathering, my cousin told me how to unlock Ness.
I tried for what seemed like forever to beat the game with three lives. Eventually, the special character screen showed and the fight began. As the fight progressed, I thought to myself, Wait, I have never seen anyone like Ness before. He was a kid who looked no more than 13 and looked like a baseball player, but he shot fire out of his hands and missiles out of his head.
After I won the fight, I looked at his character bio, which said he was from a game called Earthbound.  I quickly turned on my computer, and, long story short, my computer fried. I knew it would be awhile before I would be getting a new computer, so I gave up on researching the game for a while. Several years later, I was in a computer class, and I was bored out of my mind, so I decided to start researching the game again. I came across an article about the ending of the game. It scared me half to death. The article was filled with horrifying images and had a video of the final boss.
The following is a passage from the article.        Shigesato Itoi stated that his “inspiration for Giygas came from a traumatic childhood experience where he mistakenly walked into an adult movie theater and caught a glimpse of a rape scene in the 1957 movie Kenpei to Barabara Shibijin. In Earthbound, Giygas is the main antagonist, who gains such a chaotically menacing power that it destroys himself. Riddled insanity warped his already corrupted mind to complete destruction. When confronted, Giygas loses his mind completely, and becomes blinded by his own irrationalities, eventually to the point where he looses awareness completely. Without a body or mind, Giygas manifests himself into a distorted image of suffering, lashing out in an idiotic blind rage, in a sense, comparable to the Lovecraftian god Azathoth.” The passage was found here: http://www.digitalsomething.com/articles/14.html For the longest time, that article made no sense to me, driving me insane. One thing the article frequently mentioned was ‘nightmare’ or ‘fear,’ so I typed “Ness’s nightmare” into YouTube. I found several clips of the game, and my obsession returned at full force. After seeing many YouTube videos about Earthbound, I was inspired to make my own YouTube channel, which, I am proud to say, has become fairly popular.
Shortly after I made the YouTube account, I became close friends with someone who, if not for the fact that he, too, liked Earthbound, I would have never met. One day I was on a web site called billed your own south park corrupter I was trying to make Ness Eric the person in question asked me if I was making Ness I was shocked because I thought I was the only person who liked earthbound within a 1000 mile ratios ever sense then we have been the best of friends. We have been working together on just about everything.  Soon afterward, I learned that there was a sequel to Earthbound, called Mother 3, available only in Japan. After downloading a ROM of the game and an English translation patch for it, I began playing the game extensively, and was very moved by the game’s intense story. In fact, Mother 3 is the first game that ever made me cry. I can safely say, as well as millions of others, that I am a better person thanks to those two games.
