War is the third studio album by Irish rock band U2, released on February 28, 1983. It was the band's first overtly political album, and has been described by some as the album where U2 "turned pacifism into a crusade".

War was also the band's first commercial success, knocking Michael Jackson's Thriller off of the top spot on Billboard's Top UK Albums chart.

In 2003, Rolling Stone listed the album at #221 on its countdown of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

In 2008, U2's first three albums (including War) were remastered and re-released.

Track List
1. Sunday Bloody Sunday (4:40)
2. Seconds (3:10)
3. New Year's Day (5:35)
4. Like a Song (4:46)
5. Drowning Man (4:14)
6. The Refugee (3:40)
7. Two Hearts Beat As One (4:03)
8. Red Light (3:46)
9. Surrender (5:34)
10. 40 (2:35)

Album Notes
* War is the first U2 album where Larry Mullen Jr. used a click track to keep time.

* "Red Light", "Like a Song" and "Surrender" feature backing vocals from an all-female group named The Coconuts.

* "The Refugee" was produced by Bill Whelan, while Steve Lillywhite mixed the song.
